The Stellenbosch Chapter of The Optical Society of America (OSA) was founded in 2008 at the University of Stellenbosch. Through integration with the Laser Research Institute (LRI) this chapter aims to promote the optics student community, student education and industrial contact.

One of the key focuses of this chapter is to participate in community outreach in the form of youth science education and community education. In colaboration with the LRI's existing outreach program we wish to promote optics and provide aid to teachers at underprivileged schools.
